The Oyaide MCS-CF is a precision-engineered carbon FRP spacer set designed to adjust the height of your phono cartridge while also contributing to vibration control and resonance tuning. It’s especially useful in tonearms without easy VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle) adjustment or when using cartridges of different body heights.
Has there ever been a cartridge spacer as flexible as “MCS-CF”?
“MCS-CF” is a revolutionary multiple cartridge spacer with six adjustable heights.
The material used is carbon FRP, which has been proven in our “HS-CF” phono headshell.
The thickness is 0.5mm. Set of three spacers, one each of 0.5mm, 1.0mm and 1.5mm thickness. Total height can be adjusted in 6 steps from a minimum of 0.5 mm to a maximum of 3.0 mm in 0.5 mm increments, either individually or by overlapping them.
The surface area with the cartridge is 19mm x 23mm, a large area to spare.
The range of cartridge mounting options includes the DECCA and SHURE M97 series with a small ground surface, the average-sized the DENON DL103 series, Audio Technica AT33 series, and ortofon MC20/30 series with a large ground surface, and the ortofon Kontrapunkt/Jazz series with a circular ground surface.
The DENON DL103 series and the ortofon MC20/30 series, which have a large ground plane, as well as the ortofon Kontrapunkt/CADNEZA/Jubilee cartridges with a circular ground plane, can be used.
In order to trace a record disc accurately, it is necessary to set the tone arm parallel to the disc surface while the needle tip contacts the disc surface at the correct needle pressure (needle pressure adjustment and zero balance adjustment).
However, the height from the top surface to the needle stylus tip differs for each cartridge. In the past, it was necessary to adjust the height of the arm each time the cartridge was replaced, which was a very nerve-wracking process, especially when the adjustment was less than 1 mm.
In addition, depending on the record player, the tone arm would not be lowered to the desired position, preventing the use of short cartridges in an ideal setting.
“MCS-CF” allows you to adjust the height of the cartridge in 6 steps from 0.5 to 3.0 mm (0.5 to 3.0 mm) in 0.5 mm increments, so the cartridge needle tip fits the board just right. This eliminates the need to adjust the height of the tone arm for each cartridge. By inserting the required number of “MCS-CF” between your cartridge and headshell in advance, you can immediately use your cartridge at its best setting.
“MCS-CF” is made of lightweight carbon FRP, so it can be used with light-needle pressure cartridges and tone arms for light-weight cartridges without any difficulty, without disrupting the weight balance as conventional metal spacers do.
“MCS-CF” processes unwanted vibrations of cartridges at high speed through the high-speed vibration processing of carbon FRP. Incidental sounds caused by unwanted vibrations are eliminated, dramatically improving the S/N ratio.
The full potential of the cartridge is drawn out, and a clear sound image emerges as if a fog has been lifted. “MCS-CF” combines flexible height adjustment with sound quality improvement. It is a revolutionary cartridge spacer that overturns the common sense of analog.
Lets you fine-tune vertical tracking angle by adding exact height between the cartridge and headshell.
Critical when:
Swapping between low- and high-body cartridges (e.g., Denon DL-103 vs. Ortofon Cadenza)
Matching stylus rake angle (SRA) to optimize tracking and sound clarity
The carbon FRP construction absorbs mechanical energy between the cartridge and headshell.
Reduces high-frequency hash and improves midrange smoothness.
Use one or combine several to reach your ideal height.
Minimal added weight — won’t affect tonearm balance significantly.
Improved tracking accuracy due to optimal stylus geometry
Tighter imaging and cleaner transients
Reduction in brightness or edge when cartridge is over-angled
Tonearms without adjustable VTA (like many Rega arms)
Cartridges with short or unusually shaped bodies
Audiophiles optimizing every parameter of analog playback
Use a digital stylus force gauge and alignment protractor to recalibrate after installation.
Check headshell screw length — you may need slightly longer screws depending on total spacer stack.
